A weird REAR CLUNKING sound started in the back when we were starting off from stops. It does it on left or right turns. I don't know if it does it on straight starts, but I think it does, but not always. I can feel the clunk, if that makes sense. It's as if someone is hitting the bottom of the floor near the back tires with a hammer. I am posting this in a new topic because it is unrelated to any of the other problems my car has had. I have noticed for the last 2 days or so that there is an odd clunking sound coming from the front left wheel. When it happens I can feel it under my foot at the far front of the floor near the p... Our issue seems to be when it's cold, and we reverse our cars- forward as well for me- and the car is at or close to full lock right or left, we hear a loud clunk in the front differential on the car. It drives me nuts, but it doesn't seem to be a concern by Audi.

Ford used to use "rubber-bonded socket" joints for their outer tie rod ends and lower ball joints. Those are a ball dropped into a socket, then they are glued together with molten rubber. It is just a matter of time before turning left and right repeatedly causes that rubber to tear, then the joint falls apart.

Jul 24, 2007 · Rarely, and only under more spirited driving conditions, if turning left or right, while braking or accelerating, I will hear a clunk from the front right of the vehicle. I believe the sound is somehow related to the steering system as the sound only occurs when turning the wheel.

dont matter if it is a small bump or a large bump, clunk still makes the same amount of noise. right turn left turn, if theres a small bump, i hear the clunk haha Sep 17, 2020 · For a year or so my 2009 Forester Limited has been making this strange clunk when I turn the steering wheel to make 90° turn either way. Then usually after that on the highway the car will pull the direction that I just turned. It doesn't seem anything to do with alignment or the tie rod ends. It happened after I replaced the struts on all ...

yes a slight friction like noise is normal as you have two components that have to touch and rotate right together, if you notice any dead spots in the rotation or spots where its hard to turn the axle then you may have an issue. cv axles typically wont clunk over bumps they typically make clicking noises on turns or thump thump thump all the time at lower speeds Yeah they had trouble duplicating mine because it only pops if I turn right into a parking spot, let the vehicle sit for 10-20 minutes and back out of the spot turning the wheel to the right, doesn’t do it turning left into a spot or turning left when backing out.

If so, then you would have a stiff, tight joint on the left side of the vehicle driving a potentially loose, sloppy joint on the right side via the sway bar, and so it could be a sway bar link or even a strut mount on the right side making the noise… NorthTexasDriver July 6, 2016, 12:44am #6 It's just 1 "clunk", when we're turning.Apparently one of the inner heat shields (way up in the suspension if you have the skid plate) was deformed just enough to "catch" the edge of the rubber boots making a slight "pop" or "clunk" when turning the wheel to the right. Just a tolerance thing I believe.

I too, hear that knocking noise whenever I turn my steering wheel to the left or right when I am in a stationary postion or driving very slow, or hitting a small bump. I took my car to a non-certified BMW tech and he felt the problem was with the tie rods. It's a "clunk, clunk, clunk" noise as you turn towards full lock. To test it for any movement, such as popping in and out, with your hands at 3 and 9, shake your tire from side to side. If it’s popping in and out, that could be causing a clunking noise. You can also inspect your power steering rack for movement and coinciding noise as well by shaking your wheel from left to right.

for the steering shaft from the engine bay side grab it by hand and see if you can wiggle it up/down or left/right, depending on which way the steering wheel is it may wiggle much more. mine i could wiggle a lot and basically make the same clunk sound i was getting by hand. problem with mine was where it bolts to the steering column, was too much clearance there and tightening that bolt did ... Jun 14, 2018 · The clunk happens often when turning right, and every once in a while when turning left. The sound is not a low end "thunk", or a high pitched "snap", but more of a midrange metallic sound. The sound doesn't happen in succession, only once per turn. It's repeatable for definitely this left wheel reverse, and I think it happens on right wheel reverse. Just curious if anyone has noticed this sound before.

May 09, 2008 · For the answer above. Well yes ball-joints can make a clunk when you go over a bump if they are far gone enough. At first it only did it once when I pulled it out of my parking spot. Another time it made a clunking noise when the temperature dropped a tad.
